Live-in Horse and Facility Caretaker
NOTE: This is a non-salaried position in exchange for a 2-bedroom apartment.

HARTH (Healing And Recovery Through Horses) Foundation has an immediate opening for a person (or a couple) to take care of our horses and perform basic farm work in exchange for a large, furnished 2-bedroom apartment. Utilities are included. This is a perfect position for someone with a supplemental income, (pension, social security etc.) who loves country living, and being around horses. HARTH facilities are located right on the shores of Lake Buchanan in Burnet TX so bring your fishing rod!
The successful candidate MUST meet the following criteria:
- Extensive experience caring for horses. This includes experience in cleaning stalls, feeding, turn-out, blanketing, basic medical care etc.
- Must be able to recognize issues like colic, lameness, choking etc.
- Must be familiar with medications for horses and what/when to use them
- Must be gentle and kind with horses
- Friendly, outgoing personality
- Positive attitude
- Self-starter/initiative
- Non-smoker
- Team player
- Dependable/responsible
- Experienced in basic ranch repairs – fixing broken pipes, fence maintenance, tractor work etc.
- Willing to volunteer as needed in our therapeutic riding program as a side-walker or horse handler (training provided).
- Must have own transportation
Opportunity to earn a little extra money if you are a veteran trained in peer-to-peer support and are willing to work with our clients.
As part of the hiring process, a background check will be performed, references checked and there will be a trial period in order to determine if there is a match between the candidate skill set and HARTH requirements.
